How to Get the Best Out of Your Plastering Finish Through Effective Programming

March 13, 2019

When it comes to any commercial shop or office fitout project, it is important to not only select the best team of tradesmen, but to also prepare a proper program of scheduling in order to achieve the highest productivity and the best finish.

Effective programming is key to a successful project. As renovations and new fitouts involve a variety of tasks and crews of different trades, each task is required to be thoughtfully planned out in advance, in the correct order. Here’s why:

1. On-Time Completion
First and foremost, a program details the timeline of when each task should take place to allow the project to be completed within the allotted time. Often, crews need to perform certain tasks before others and an efficient program ensures a smooth order of events so backtracking is not necessary, thus avoiding costly delays in the process.

2. Productivity
While various trades can simultaneously work together onsite, other tasks may necessitate certain trades to be off-site. Programming allows the productivity of each trade crew to be maximised; scheduling tradesmen that can work effectively together, while letting others have the space and time they need. For example, flooring installation usually requires other crews to be off-site.

3. Flawless Finish
Most importantly, an effective program will deliver a commercial fitout with the best quality finish. When tasks progress in the right order, there should be no need for patching or touch-ups. For example, if electricians or plumbers are called in at the wrong time, then the final plastering finish will be compromised due to the need for patching holes drilled for wiring or piping. This sort of disruption has a significant impact on the capacity to deliver a professional flawless finish; not to mention the extra time and cost involved.

Bear in mind that some project managers, even with higher education, might still have trouble running a program for a shop fitout in the right progression. This is where PGP Plastering Services stands out. With over 30 years of commercial plastering experience we work closely with all our clients to ensure each job is well planned and completed to the highest standard.

We specialise in contracting to shopfitters to assist with the plastering aspects of their projects. As a key stakeholder, we acknowledge fitout specialists rely greatly on sub-contractors to fulfil their responsibility in the process. Our commercial plasterers are highly skilled and experienced at meeting deadlines and delivering a professional finish every time and on budget.

A successful example of an Award-Winning project is Calleija Jewellers (Gold Coast) highlighting our expertise and knowledge in effective programming. This project ran for 4 weeks with many different structures, including a flowing curved bulkhead with multi-coloured LED light trough where fixed air conditioning ducts were situated just above the ceiling area. This required ceiling junctions to first be braced properly as the movement of the ducts would result in cracking. PGP’s plastering team skilfully delivered a flawless finish through innovative techniques and contributed to an effective program. Read more on the Case Study here.
